I tried to concentrate on remembering these past moments: perhaps if I went through them one by one, something would come back to me about how things were before; but all I could remember were the moments when I was already remembering other moments, without having remembered anything about the first ones. There were moments when I remembered remembering something, without having remembered it; there were other moments when I was remembering, not having remembered anything yet; and there were moments that I could only remember by remembering them twice.
